yea don’t pee in the wind so it doen’t come back on you is another good reason :)

  2. I’ll take your word for it Les… that it’s “not a problem” :) I think you are Awesome and you have done so many things I admire and respect, but I can’t think of Anything I admire and respect more than watching you survive outdoors in the cold and the snow! I think that is where you truly shine as a survivalist. I have always thought of winter as being the most unforgiving season of all – food is scarce, supplies are scarce, it’s cold, it’s wet, it’s windy, vicious storms can blow in at a moments notice and bury everything! One must be vigilant and resourceful, always… In my opinion, winter is as hard core as it gets! If you can survive the outdoors in the winter, and walk out with all your fingers and toes intact, then there’s Nothing you can’t survive Les Stroud!

    Hi Les.

You wouldn’t remember this, but I emailed you a couple times, early in the run of Survivorman. To my delight you responded and were most kind and helpful in doing so. Just wanted to thank you for that. I recently bought and read “Survive”; it sure is a great book, full of time-tested advice for surviving many harsh situations.

My question: do you think the internet will continue be the best vehicle for true survival videos, given TV’s tendency to want drama and manufactured situations to get good ratings? What I always admired about your films is you’ve resisted the urge to do some of the things Bear Grylls and the Dual Survival guys (Canterbury, Lundin) and the man Woman wild people do. I refer to things like sneaking off to hotels at night, sliding dangerously down a long, slippery cedar log in Washington’s Olympic National Park instead of finding a safer way down, or splitting up just to demonstrate how to find your partner in the Peruvian desert. That might make compelling TV, if you don’t examine the premises too closely. B they aren’t authentic survival and could easily tempt people to try things without proper preparation and training, despite the disclaimers.

What I loved from the get go on Survivorman, Survive This and Beyond Survival was those shows’ palpable authenticity: no camera crew eating doughnuts while you starve; no sound guys pounding down Red Bulls while you’re boiling contaminated creek water full of Giardia. Real survival, minus the glitzy production values and “manufactured situations”.

Best of luck going forward. I’m very happy to learn that new Survivorman episodes will be available in the future, perhaps by Fall 2012. Remember to stay the hell away from jaguars, and, whatever you do, avoid taking the kinds of foolish risks that cost Steve Irwin his life! Remember, you have a wife and kids; they are your most important responsibility.

    Hey Les (and crew) -

I just watched the latest FAQ video (FAQ #29) – and LOVE the idea and execution of them. Thank you for this!

Curious – being that FAQ #29 was uploaded to YouTube on April 8th, 2011 – do you know when you’ll begin to add new FAQ videos?

Thank you again for all you do! Peace & joy to you and your family.

    Best,
    – md
