ROCK ON, LES!!!!!!
Wow! That’s so cool, it’s the “other” side of Survivorman. Keep up the good work and come to Houston soon!
I gotta tell ya “I am completely impressed and, glad to see that you have shown the world there is another side to ‘Survivorman’”. I have followed your media career as far back as I can find and my hat is off to you and your family. I’m sure that you know who Bradford & Vena Angier are (for those of your fan that don’t, they were ‘north woods pioneers in the early part of the twenth century’ who put everything in book form) and, you along with your family remind me of them a lot. I am very proud to say that you and I come from the same generation since, I have done some of the ‘survivorman’ trips on my own back in the late 70′s and early 80′s. It’s great to see on TV what you endure out there most people would never consider undertaking seven days without power in their own backyard let alone all over the world. I do understand the toll it can put on the body never mind the physical but also the mental side of things with the unknown. Thank you again, I was looking at the globe today and ‘couldn’t find your grid’, ‘that’s GREAT, I have been working torward that for some time now but with a nervous wife and kids it’s not easy to go “off the grid”. More ‘power’ to ya, take care. Ray
love your music man, and playing with Alice Copper I grew up listening to him and the doors.wow just wow.
Great job Les! Hey, you’re a Canadian, can you do a tour with Rush while they’re touring in Los Angeles? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease? Great job Les, great job!!

that was awesome Les! That must have been quite the experience on stage with Alice Cooper.I just wanted you to know that my bf and I are huge fans of both of your shows!! Its nice to see a good ol Canadian making a living out of surviving. There is no doubt in my mind that you save lives with what your what your show teaches people about surviving! Anyways i wish you the best of luck with your shows, and just know that you have a tonnes of Canadian fans out there, who truly admire what you do for a living! To go and stay in the bush or wherever for a week on end with no food..and what little materials you do have is amazing!! You are one tough guy, I bet a lot of people couldn’t handle doing that for even one night, but you definitley show them up! If you ever make your way through Sudbury Ontario drop me a line..I have a place in mind that you should try surviving a week..ever hear of Francis Lake, in Kilarney? lol It would be an honour to meet you someday if you are ever around Sudbury.
Good luck and i look forward to seeing what you are going to do next!
Reney

Dear Less and Family.Welcome to the off grid lifestyle . It is not for the meek. I have been off-grid since 1995 and I think you are off to a good start. I used the cmtiosopng toilet for about 8 years but never got the hang of turning the waste into useable mulch. I had to haul it out in a bucket, after putting down a plastic carpet runner to protect the floor. Spills are just not an option. Now I have a septic tank and flush toilet. I spent a year or so planning before taking the plunge with a 12 volt system and a couple of year ago upgraded to 48 volts. Like you, I started with Trace inverters but now use Outback. For refrigeration I went with a Sunfrost 12 volt RF-16 which runs off two golf cart batteries costing about 1/3 of the Surrette batteries you purchased (Golf cart batteries have about half the life span but cost 1/3 as much). For your battery connections I suggest the shortest lengths of cable possible, say 4 to 5 inches between terminals to maximize performance and reduce line loss. I had a bad experience with propane refrigerators and found the low-voltage Sunfrost to be much better. Wind energy is good, but sometime it is better to mount it away from the house rather than to it, because in high winds the harmonic produced by the wind generator can be felt in the house. My well is solar powered also, but because of our drought in southern California, I have to have it hauled in. One good way to capture the rain is by installing roof gutters leading to large water tanks near the structures corners.(on my list to do now). Great books are available at realgoods.com and I recommend Michael Pott’s books as a great place to start for the basics and afordablesolar.com is one of our best sources for the hardware. For the kids and family I highly recommend satellite TV, so that you don’t miss a single episode of Survivorman. Next time you are in so-cal , drop me a line and I will give you a tour of the place and show you around the neighborhood so you can meet and check out the neighborhood which has four other home running off the grid. Good luck and thanks for making such a great series for those interested in a sustainable lifestyle.Got to go. I’m burning daylight.Cheers,Ed
