Congratulations Colin Herbener for winning the Les Stroud Ultimate Fan competition. Colin received a swag pack for being the Ultimate fan with the following letter.
I was lost when I first heard of Les Stroud. Sure, I didn't know his name just yet, and fine, I wasn't even outdoors; but as an uncertain 16 year-old with a burning passion for the wilderness in a commercial world, lost indeed was I when I was first shown 'Survivorman'. As the first notes of Stroud's primordial chanting filled the room, I was hooked. Little did I know how much my life was about to change. Stroud blew me away time and time again: Survivorman, Snowshoes & Solitude, Off the Grid, survival instructor, and at one time a guide canoeing for Black Feather. Then to learn that this local Canadian is also a singer/songwriter floored me. Once again, I was gripped by this man's work, effortlessly it seemed. Soon enough I had memorized everything Les created. One of the greatest highlights of my life was being a part of 'Voices in the Wilderness: An Evening with Les Stroud'. His music is more than notes on a page, strummed from a guitar; it is the voice of the Canadian North. That combined with his epic film footage and powerful stage presence made for one helluva night. A night never easily forgotten. I've met the man twice to date, never missing an opportunity, both times further reinforced his influence in my life. I'd dreamed of a life in the wilderness but never thought it possible until Les proved otherwise. Now, two years later, my passion is burning fiercer yet, my eyes focused, and my heart free. I am an aspiring musician with a room full of Survivorman merchandise and a life in the wilderness ahead of me. This and more I owe to the great inspiration I find in Les Stroud. And that is why I am Les Stroud's ultimate fan.

It is a good thing that one man can inspire others to have an understanding of how instinctual it is to love the wilderness around us. Taking part somehow in the wilderness aroung us is not just a hobby, a way to get away from our normal lifestyle, or learning about surviving in a place we are not usually in. It is the meaning of which expressing ourselves in the earth’s natural environment. After all, being in the these naturistic places is the closest we can get to how beautiful the earth was thousands of years ago before us humans came along and besmirched it into what it is now. The earth is already diminishing but we can not let ourselves lose respect for it and keep on getting other people to learn and like the wilderness. Les Stroud is an interesting and great person to be inspiring so many people as well as other survival shows do. Good fortunes to all who are enlightened by Les Stoud.

scout I would love to learn from a man such as Les. Some of us have what it takes to be all that you can be and some dont. It’s going to be fun watching and learning to see who has it and who dont. With some of the places the army sees that I go I cant tell you where that is but, maybe some other time. Untill then all my best wishes and I support what you do.

i would love to be on one of the shows you do i watch your show all the time. I know alot of survival skills i am really good at hunting I have my hunting licenes an i go hunting all of the time .I go with my dad and i also go fishing and camping.one time i was camping with my cusin we woke up at 5:oo AM, Me and my cusint walked out of the tent to go salmon fishing and there was a cyoty right next to our tent and i told him to stand still and he will go away and dont stare him down he will feel thretend and will atack he did what i said and it went away. if i was on your show i would be very good at surviving in coldwether or hot I go hgunting in the cold salmon fishing in the cold. i have a boat that me and my dad go salt water fishing on only in the summer.we go claming and that is hard the green flies are all over and boy do they bite. that doesnt stop me. I go every time. i go in the woods alot with my dad. I do it all in rain shine or my favorite is snow.
It is my dreem to be on the show i would realy love to go on it
